Foam Mask

We began our project with sheets of paper
marked with lines in geometric patterns.
From here we cut these pieces out of sheets
of foam and attached the pieces according to the
designations on the edges.

We also tested different sealants on the foam
to determine which we should use.

We decided that using the acrylic based sealant was
better for our purposes and applied it to the
entire mask. After the first coat of sealant dried
we used our razors to score the inside and outside of the
mask along the incision lines. I followed this by
adding hot glue into these incisions to hold the foam
in this geometric form.

With a complete mask I began to prepare
my decorations. With no pre-made carnations
available to me, I bought similar looking white
linen flowers and painted them myself.

In between coats I added my black base coat
of paint onto the pre-treated skull.

Using pre-made glitter stickers I stenciled
patterns onto the mask and then filled the shapes
with hot glue.

Once the hot glue dried I painted it with
metallic gold paint. This process took 5
coats to get the correct opacity of color.

With the gold painted I now added
on my marigolds.

To add dimension to the mask I added another
color into the pallate using silver rhinestones.

Ta Da!
