I began my approach to this project by sculpting the crack in my characters face in an oil based clay:
Then I coated my cracks in layers and layers of latex:
Then I began on my moss hair appliances. To do this I put down a layer of latex and inserted small amounts of hair into wet latex over the course of 20 minutes:
After building my first appliance, I decided that I did not like the texture and length of the moss, so I began to make a new one using a different technique:
With my appliances finished, I began my makeup process by gluing on my latex face crack:
Then I tried to begin the process of applying color to my face:
With the majority of my face colored, I began to clean off and apply my moss appliances to the areas designated in my line elevations:
To enhance depth in my appliance I filled in the cracks with a black to bring them back further into my face:
To finish off the character, I added blood into the wound to bring dimensionality into the character:
