Final Project: Constance the Warrior

Constance is a warrior from the planet of Piedra. The people of this planet were born from mother earth and live as one with their environment. Their features are human-esque but are somewhat obstructed by the plant life growing with them. Constance’s face is battered, with liquid rubies dripping from the gash that travels over her right eye. Her face is a dull grey that blends in with her rocky surroundings and her eyebrows are covered completely in moss.

I began my approach to this project by sculpting the crack in my characters face in an oil based clay:

Then I coated my cracks in layers and layers of latex:

Then I began on my moss hair appliances. To do this I put down a layer of latex and inserted small amounts of hair into wet latex over the course of 20 minutes:

After building my first appliance, I decided that I did not like the texture and length of the moss, so I began to make a new one using a different technique:

With my appliances finished, I began my makeup process by gluing on my latex face crack:

Then I tried to begin the process of applying color to my face:

With the majority of my face colored, I began to clean off and apply my moss appliances to the areas designated in my line elevations:

To enhance depth in my appliance I filled in the cracks with a black to bring them back further into my face:

To finish off the character, I added blood into the wound to bring dimensionality into the character:
